I know according to my menu plan,
tonight was "Easy Pepper Jack Chicken."
However, I forgot to pickup an ingredient
last night at the grocery store.
So, since I did pick up everything for
the Beef and Broccoli, I just changed
Beef and Broccoli
I found this recipe on Pinterest (OMG, I love that site).
1 lb boneless beef chuck roast, sliced into thin strips
1 c beef consumme
1/2 c soy sauce
1/3 c brown sugar
1 Tbsp sesame oil
3 garlic cloves, minced (I used 1 Tbsp already minced garlic)
2 Tbsp cornstarch
2 Tbsp cooled sauce from crock pot after being cooked
Fresh broccoli florets (as much as would like)
Hot cooked rice
1. Place beef in crock pot
2. In small bowl, combine consumme, soy sauce, brown
sugar, oil and garlic.
3. Pour over beef. Cook on low for 6-8 hrs.
4. After it finished cooking, mix cornstarch and sauce from
crock pot (in a cup) until smooth. Add back to crock pot.
Stir well to combine. If your sauce is not thickening, try bringing
your sauce to a boil on the stove top with the cornstarch mixture.
5. Add broccoli to crock pot. Stir to combine.
6. Cover and cook an additional 30 minutes on high.
Sauce has to boil to thicken.
7. Serve over rice.
Well friends, I would love to show you a picture of the finished product.
However, this is what we got:
The meat got terribly burnt.
Johnny said that after it had been cooking for only
4 hours when he noticed it starting to burn.
He turned the crock pot down to warm
and he said it was still bubbling an hour later.
I will say the sauce itself was very good.
The meat just had a really bad burnt flavor.
I think that my crock pot is messed up.
Yesterday we had trouble it coming back
up to temperature from warm.
Now, today it cooked way too hot.
I guess I will be calling the company tomorrow
to see if there is a possible recall.
We have not had this crock pot that long.
Not even 5 months.
If you try this recipe, please let me know
how it turned out. I am going to
try and make it when I get my crock pot
fixed or a new one!
I hope you get to enjoy it!
Love to you all from the
