Easy Weeknight Beef Stroganoff

My family and I love beef stroganoff.
It is just a great filling meal that comes together
very quickly.  I also love stroganoff because
there are many different variations of this recipe.
That is why I decided to try something new
when fixing my stroganoff Saturday night.

I have been seeing the new Progresso Recipe
Starters in the stores for a while now.
So, I decided to give them a try.

This is the Creamy Portabella Mushroom type.
I love that there are recipes on the label.
This particular flavor had a recipe for beef stroganoff.
So, I decided to break from my normal stroganoff recipe
and give these a try.

Now, you know my husband and I.  We
like to play around with recipes.  So, we
did add a couple of different components.
As always, I will let you know when
we have "veered" from the original recipe.

Now on to the recipe!



Progresso "Easy Weeknight Beef Stroganoff"

2 lb. boneless beef top sirloin steak, cut into 2 X 1/4 inch strips


1 cup chopped onion (1 large)


2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 can Progresso Recipe Starters creamy
portabella mushroom cooking sauce
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
3/4 c sour cream
Hot cooked noodles, if desired


* In a 12-in nonstick skillet, heat 1 Tbsp vegetable oil over
medium-high heat until hot.
* Cook beef in oil 6 to 8 minutes,
stirring frequently, until no longer pink.

NOTE: we seasoned our meat with this during cooking - YUM!

* Remove beef from skillet; drain.
*Wipe out skillet with paper towel.
* In same skillet, heat 1 tsp vegetable oil over medium heat.
* Add onion and garlic to skillet.

* Cook 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onion is almost tender.
* Stir in the cooking sauce, Worcestershire sauce, 3/4 tsp salt and
1/4 tsp pepper.

NOTE: I added more mushrooms when I added the other
ingredients.  I know, I know!  I am addicted to mushrooms -- LOL!

*Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally.
* Simmer uncovered 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
* Stir in sour cream until well blended; stir in beef.

* Heat until hot. 
* Serve over noodles.

I can not wait to get more of these sauces.
I might or might not try the recipes included.
However, I have a feeling however I use the
sauces, they will give an excellent flavor to the dish.
