Hot Pepper Italian Sausages for the Slow Cooker

If you have been following me for a while, you know I love all kinds of spicy foods. Honestly, the hot the better in most instances. My love of all things spicy lead to the creation of this recipe and finally finding a use for my dad's wonderful HOT peppers.

The flavor the canned hot peppers gave this meal was amazing. Now, if you do not have a jar of peppers sitting around like this at home, don't worry.

You can still make this wonderful recipe with some ingredient substitutions and I will tell you what you will need. However, if you can get your hands a jar of homemade hot peppers, I would definitely recommend using them. I personally love these. My dad and my father-in-law both make these type of peppers. I have been wanting to create something with them for a while besides just eating them out of the jar. Plus, now I have an excuse to get more peppers LOL!!

Now, on to the recipe!!
Hot Pepper Italian Sausages for the Slow Cooker
Recipe by The Busy Cooking Momma

Ingredients:
10 mild Italian sausages, casings removed and cut into pieces
1 large onion, sliced
1 8oz package fresh mushrooms
1 jar canned hot peppers**
1/2 cup of water

**If you do not have canned hot peppers, substitute the following: 2 banana or hot pepper (depending on how hot you would like the dish) seeded and cut into rings and 1 1/3 cup of V-8 spicy tomato juice. Now, you can always leave the seeds in if you want it spicier. My dad had done this with the jar of peppers I used and it really added a lot of heat. This is totally dependent on you and your families' likes.

In your slow cooker, add the Italian sausages,

onions,

mushrooms,

and the jar of hot peppers (or substitution ingredients).

Add the 1/2 cup of water, give everything a good stir and place the lid on your cooker. Cook on low for 5 hours.

I served this easy and delicious recipe over mashed potatoes. I loved the mashed potatoes with this dish. First, it really did help cut some of the heat. Second, the creaminess of the mashed potatoes really added an extra layer of flavor. Again, do not hesitate to adjust the heat of this dish. Also, you definitely could make this dish without the mushrooms. I think it would taste just as good without them.

I hope you enjoy!!

Love to you all from The Busy Cooking Momma!
